Dear SBSC families,
Practice Schedule Here is the practice schedule for this week. Washington HS Group 1 next practice Tuesday April 13 G1 Elite next practice Monday April 12 Group 2 next practice Monday April 12 Group 3 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 4:15-5:45 New Prairie HS (only for NPUSC students) Group 1 next practice Monday April 12 Group 2 next practice Monday April 12 Group 3 next practice Monday April 12 Practice Notes: NP Group 3 swimmers still wishing to practice this week should report to Riley. Senior State Great meet for our club. We finished 17th in the state. Altogether, we had 50 individual swims (including the relay lead off legs) and these were our results. 5 new individual team records. 2 new relay records. 27 of the swims are now in the all-time top 10. 41 new best club times. 6 of those swims were even faster then their high school sectional times! Age Group State We may have only had a few swims so far but our kids are swimming very well. You can follow us today on your Meet Mobile app (2021 North SCY AGS) or on the Elkhart Aquatic YouTube page. I will post all the results in next week's email. Speedo Sectionals Elkhart Aquatic Center March 25-28 I have attached the overall psyche sheet as of last Thursday. The entry deadline is tonight so there will be some changes. The format for this meet is different then what we have experienced so far. The top 40 swimmers in each event will be competing in the evening "Championship" session. All other swimmers, male and female will be competing in a combined session that will start at 11:00 AM. Here are the pertinent times for each session: Thursday-Sunday Combined Session Warm-ups 9:30-10:50 Meet Starts 11:00 Thursday-Saturday Championship Session Warm-ups 5:00-6:20 Meet Starts 6:30 Sunday Championship Session Warm-ups 4:30-5:50 Meet Starts 6:00 I will speak with each athlete about their particular times they will need to be on deck. There is a coach's meeting tomorrow evening and I assume we will find out if we have specific warm-up/enter the building times. Most of our athletes received a packet of waivers they will need to fill out and return to me on Monday. If they haven't received it yet they will receive it on Monday and they should return it to me on Tuesday. Spring/Summer Season 21 Our first practices will be the week of April 11th. If you are currently registered you do not need to do anything. When you registered in the fall you were signing up for an entire year. If you have family or friends who would like to join the club the spring/summer registration is open. Remember this is not for swimmers currently registered with the club during the fall and winter of 20/21. We have been given the clearance to increase our numbers at NP. We (Coach Ashley and myself) have decided in order to maintain quality control we are still going to limit our overall numbers at the NP site. While we are opening some spots it will still be, at least initially, limited. If you know of anyone who is interested I would let them know ASAP. At this time we have not set our schedule for the summer times at NP. We are waiting for some direction from the administration to what they will allow us to do. But, if we are anything like we were before we will have practices in the late afternoon, early evening. Practices for the spring in South Bend will return to Riley. We still have not been given an exact date as to when the pool will be ready but I was assured it will be ready by April 12. Due to several reason it looks like the updates on the the pool will be delayed until summer 2022. Lifeguarding The best time to lifeguard is now! We need your help!! PEASE sign-up in any available spot. USA Swimming Guidelines-MAAPPUSA USA Swimming issued a directive with regards to electronic communication and social media contact between coaches and athletes. Most of what is being implemented is common sense and falls in line with our club's policies. One new requirement we will need to adhere to is how your minor child communicates with me. For several years I have asked swimmers in Group 2 and Group 3 to text/email me if they would be missing practice. Moving forward, swimmers will be instructed to include a parent on all communication with me.
If you are the parent of a Group 2 or Group 3 swimmer, and have never sent me a text before, please text me so I have your contact info in my phone. This way if I need to contact your swimmer about missing practice I can be sure to include you. My cell phone number is 574-276-6057.
I encourage all parents and swimmers to read the full policy. We are required to keep this policy on our website, here is the link. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. -- John VanDriessche Head Coach South Bend Swim Club South Bend Riley High School (574)276-6057 www.southbendswimclub.com #SBSCForLife
