IA Meet and LCB Meet
The deadline for committing to these meets is this evening.  I would like all of our Group 3 swimmers to swim on Friday and Saturday of the IA meet.  If they would like to swim Sunday they are of course free to select that day also.  High School swimmers will need a waiver for this meet.  Waivers are done by each school's athletic director

NASA Sprint MeetThe meet letter and our entry our attached.  You can always log in to your account on our website to find your swimmer's events.  You can also use the OnDeck app.  Parents please write your swimmer's event numbers on their hand/arm.  It will alleviate quite a bit of work for our coaches if this is done prior to your swimmer arriving at the pool.

Here are the pertinent times for this weekend's meet:
Saturday and Sunday AM Sessions (all 10 and under swimmers)
Warm-ups 7:00-7:50 our swimmers need to be on deck by 6:45
Meet starts 8:05

Saturday and Sunday PM sessions (all 11 and over swimmers)
Warm-ups 12:00-1:00 -- our swimmers need to be on deck by 11:45
Meet Starts 1:15
Evaluations for G1 and G2
Over the last week or so our coaching staff has been handing out evaluations to our Group 1 and Group 2 swimmers.  Parents should have also received an email copy of the evaluation.  Our staff has been looking for ways to increase motivation and find ways to improve swimmer's (and parent's) experience with our club.  This is our first attempt at this and we will be evaluating ourselves and the tools we are using in the process.  We plan to do two more evaluations this season.  One prior to Christmas beak and prior to the February CON meet. If you have any suggestions or would like to share your thoughts, good or bad, please let me know.  If you did not receive an evaluation please contact your swimmer's primary coach.

2nd T-shirt order
We have had a few swimmers join the team after we placed our initial order.  I have also heard from some of our parents they would like to order some shirts as well.  I spoke with our vendor and if we can get at least 12 shirts ordered we can place an order.  If you are interested in a T-shirt or your swimmer has not yet received a T-shirt please let me know ASAP.

Golden Goggles
The Golden Goggles is USA Swimming's annual awards ceremony for their athletes and coaches.  It also serves as their fundraiser for the USA Swimming  Foundation.  Each year they recognize several outstanding performances.  This year one of our very own has been nominated for an award.  Bethany Galat, a senior at Texas A&M and former SBSC member, has been nominated for the "Breakout Performer of the Year".  You can click here to read Bethany's short bio and to cast your vote for her.

Swim-A-Thon at Riley High School This Saturday October 21st
As of this morning we are just 40% of our way towards our goal with only 6 days left.  We now 34 out of our 130 swimmers find someone to donate.  Thank you to those 34, but, by any measure this should be considered a failure. This is our 5th Swim-A-Thon we've hosted and we have never failed to reach our goal in the other 4.

This is the only fundraising we do for the entire year and it is imperative for our operating budget.  We have had increasing costs over the year's, like any growing business does, but we have been able to keep our training fees as low as we have because of the success of our Swim-A-Thons.    This requires a team effort.

We will also be needing volunteers to help count our swimmers laps.  I will be supplying coffee and donuts for everyone who is able to come and help on on Saturday.  Yes, I realize this is three Saturdays in a row I have asked for your help.  October is an incredibly busy month for us and this may be one of the last things you will be asked to help with until our meet in February.

NASA Sprint Meet Plus
The deadline to commit to this meet is tonight. When some of our families committed to this meet the option to select which days you wanted to attend was not available. Some of you left a note to which days you wanted to swim, thanks. If you did not leave a note and you don't want your swimmer to swim both days of this meet please email me.  If there are no sessions selected, and I do not hear from you I will assume you want them in both days.

Concord Dual Meet
Although we came up a little short on the scoreboard it was a great meet experience for the entire club.  Some of our new swimmers took part in their first meet and several others got to swim events for the very first time.  Our more experienced kids were dropping time in multiple events, not something that always happens in October. Thanks to all the parents who volunteered to help time.  Also, thanks to all the families and swimmers that were able to make it out to Wings Etc. yesterday as well.  I will post the results as soon as I receive them.  There were some issues with some of the events and it make take a day or two to get them resolved.  I hope to have them by Tuesday.

Team T-shirts
I will be picking up the team T-shirts this week and have them ready for pick up at the Swim-A-Thon on Saturday.  I may also have the team suits you ordered from Just Add H20.

Increased Fees this Month
As I mentioned at the parent meeting those swimmers choosing not to participate in competitions will pay a higher training fees.  If your swimmer did not participate in the meet yesterday or the meet we hosted on the 7th you will see and additional charge on your account.  This does not apply to swimmers in their first competitive season.

Message From South Bend Venues Parks & Arts Department
I have been asked to share this with our membership:
Over the last decade you helped us dream up a better park system through community forums, our City Comprehensive Plan, Parks 5-Year Master Plan, Riverfront Parks and Trails framework, and more.  You came up with some great ideas and helped us form an innovative and comprehensive plan for what the future of those parks will look like. A few of those project are underway, but we now have the opportunity to make them all happen! Through a mixture of private funding, TIF dollars, and two different bonds, the City would be able to fully fund proposed projects in over 37 of our city’s parks – all without raising taxes or increasing city debt. The City is holding a number of meetings to make decisions on the bond financing for these projects. We need your voice at these meetings to help make these projects come to fruition. Please consider attending the meetings below to say, “I support My SB Parks and Trails.” Park Board members and the Common Council want to hear support from residents. The next meetings are:

Park Board Meeting
Monday, October 16th
5:00 p.m.
321 E. Walter St., O'Brien Admin Building

Common Council Meeting
Monday, October 23rd
7:00 p.m.
125 S. Lafayette Blvd. 4th floor, County-City Building

Complete project list and details are available at mysbparksandtrails.com.

If you are unable to attend either of these meetings, please consider emailing the park board or common council members. Their emails and a sample letter of support is attached.

Thank you,
Jackie

Golden Goggles
The Golden Goggles is USA Swimming's annual awards ceremony for their athletes and coaches.  It also serves as their fundraiser for the USA Swimming  Foundation.  Each year they recognize several outstanding performances.  This year one of our very own has been nominated for an award.  Bethany Galat, a senior at Texas A&M and former SBSC member, has been nominated for the "Breakout Performer of the Year".  You can click here to read Bethany's short bio and to cast your vote for her.

For those of you that are interested Bethany and her Texas A&M teammates will be swimming at Notre Dame at Rolfs Aquatics Center on this weekend. The meet will begin at 5:00 on Friday and 11:00 on Saturday morning.

Intra-Squad Meet Tuesday
We had 108 swimmers participate in this year's intra-squad!  Thank you to everyone who was able to help time, work in the cafeteria, or just show up to support our swimmers.
NCISC Meet Saturday October 7th at Riley High School
Another great showing for our club.  We had 87 of our swimmers compete yesterday.  This may be our largest group we've ever had at any meet. Congratulations to Joe Radde who set new team records in the boys 13-14 50 Fly (26.13) and 100 IM (1:00.30). I have attached a pdf of the final results and places, you can click here to see our improvements, you can find our new all time top ten here, and here is our updated qualifiers page.  I caution you when you read the qualifiers page that it may not be 100% accurate.  Our website host has not uploaded this year's Indiana Swimming's Championship time standards and our page is showing those that achieved last year's time standard.  Please just use our page as a starting point.  You can check to see if your swimmer has qualified by using this chart.

Also, I can not thank our parent group enough for your willingness to help run the meet yesterday. Once again you showed why the South Bend Swim Club is not just another youth sports program.  We our a family willing to lend a hand whenever asked!  A special thanks to Darci Maurer and Amy Szakaly for running our hospitality room and our concession stand.  I also wanted to thank Nick Milovich.  Nick's employer, Adams Remco, donated the copier we used yesterday and we were able to have heat sheets in your hands faster then ever before.

Concord Dual Meet Saturday October 14th at Concord High School
Here are the pertinent times for this Saturday's meet:

Group 3 swimmers warm-up/practice: 8:00-9:15 -- our swimmers need to be on deck by 7:45
Group 3 breakfast with the CON high school swimmers: 9:15-10:00
Group 1 and Group 2 warmup: 9:15-9:50 -- our swimmers need to be on deck by 9:00
Meet Starts at 10:00

The deadline for committing to this meet is tonight, Sunday October 8th
Swim-A-Thon at Riley High School October 21st
As of this morning we are just 22% of our way towards our goal with only 2 weeks left.  We now have 22 swimmers who have received donations so, a very small increase from last week.  This is our 5th swim-a-thon we've hosted and we have never failed to reach our goal in the other 4.  At the pace we are going we may not make it to 50% of what we hoped to raise.

This is the only fundraising we do for the entire year and it is imperative for our operating budget.  I realize every activity your child participates in does fundraising. I am also aware you can only call ask the grandparents only so many times.  But it very easy to set up your swimmer's account, send out to your email and put a link on your Facebook page.  If every swimmer raised as little as $80 we surpass our goal. The funds this season are going to help cover our coach's salaries, pay for our sports performance consultant, and if we raise enough money we would like to purchase the Ikkos mental training system.

NASA Sprint Meet Plus
When some of our families committed to this meet the option to select which days you wanted to attend was not available. Some of you left a note to which days you wanted to swim, thanks. Picking up Swimmers
Parents are reminded they are to pick up their swimmers no later then 15 minutes after the conclusion of the end of practice.  There are fines and they escalate for 2nd and 3rd offenses.  Please be conscious of mine and the other coaches time.  Accidents do happen and the courtesy of text to me explaining that you will be late goes a long way.
Intra-Squad Meet Tuesday October 3rd
All swimmers should be on deck no later then 5:30.

If you will be running late please send me a text.  All swimmers will be entered in the meet unless you have opted out using the meet declaration process on our website.

There is no practice at either site and there is no cost for swimmers to compete.

After the meet is over (meet lasts about 75 minutes) we head to the cafeteria for a pizza party/potluck dinner for our families.  We are asking all families to bring their favorite dish to share.  Families with the last names beginning with A-M bring their favorite side dish and families with the last names starting with N-Z bring their favorite dessert.  Remember we are required to clean up so we ask that no one bring brownies.

We are going to need some help from our parents at the meet.  We are going to need 16 timers, 6 parents to help with the cafeteria including 2 arriving at 5:15.  We also need everyone who is able, to stay and help clean up.  We are responsible for any mess we make including trash removal. Here is the link to sign up for any of these jobs. (Make sure you are signed into our site)

The cost of this meet is $6.  Swimmers may be able to swim 3 individual events and 2 relays.

Since this is a meet we host we also need several volunteers to run a successful meet.  We will need timers, concession stand workers, hospitality room helpers, credential check point workers, and some help with the awards.  Most jobs are set up for two hour time slots.  If you can volunteer for more then one two hour spot it would be greatly appreciated. You can get to jobs volunteer page by clicking here, remember to make sure you are logged in to our website.

The deadline to commit to this meet is one week from tonight, October 8th.  But, if you know you will be attending this meet please commit as soon as you can.  Since both the NCISC meet and this one offer the same events it helps with planning/event selection if I know they are attending both.
