Meet Declaration
If you are planning on your swimmer attending any meets left on on our schedule please take a few minutes of your time and commit them to the meet.  It really does save quite a bit a time prior to sending our entry to the meet host.  Thank you to those families who are opting out of the meet and leaving a short note as to why they will not be able to attend.

Group 2 Day at RHS This Thursday December 3rd
As of this morning we have 11 swimmers who have signed up to help time at Riley Vs. Clay girls/boys dual meet.  The meet starts at 5:00 and we would like all of our swimmers to who are able to help be on deck by 4:45.  We would also like everyone to wear this season's team shirt to the meet.  These meets typically last about 2-2.5 hours.  The club will provide pizza for dinner during the diving break for all the group 2 swimmers in attendance.  If you have not done so already, and you know your swimmer is planning on attending, please commit them so we will know how many pizza's to order.

Dual Meet Vs Irish Aquatics January 16thRolfs Aquatic Center
Irish Aquatics has invited us to compete in a dual meet against their club.  This will be unique for all of our swimmers as the pool will be set-up a little differently then we are accustomed to seeing it.  Prior to our dual meet, Notre Dame will be competing in a their own dual meet vs. Northwestern starting, I believe, at noon.  The pool set-up for the varsity meets has the 25 yard competition set up in the middle of their 50 meter pool.  Our warm-ups will start as soon as possible after the conclusion of the college meet.  Hopefully we can get our entire team watching the college meet so our young swimmers can see where their swimming careers can take them.  The plan is to have the meet last a maximum of 2 hours.  After the meet we our planning something social for both teams and their families to do together.  I will share more details as they become available.

The meet declaration function for this meet has been turned on.  The deadline for opting out of this meet will be Sunday January 13th

LaPorte Swim Club's Maple City ClassicDec 12th & 13th
Our entry has been sent.  You can log onto your account on our website or you can use the OnDeck Parent app.  Some swimmers who did not commit and I entered in the meet were only entered for on day of the meet.  I chose the day with the events I felt were the most appropriate for each of those swimmer's current level

Our new deadline is one week from today,Sunday December 6th.  I would like our high school athletes to attend this meet.  I would like them to do so for a couple of reasons.  The first I would like them to have the opportunity to swim their best non high school events.  Secondly, I want them to experience the meet format that will be similar to the championship meets after the high school season  High school swimmers will need a waiver to be completed on line by their athletic director. High school swimmers that are not committed by the deadline will not be entered in the meet

MSC/GSI January Meets
I am sure most of you have noticed there are two meets on the same weekend. The MSC meet was placed on our schedule for our 11 and over swimmers with a minimum of at least one Divisional time standard.  The GSI meet is for all of our 10 and under swimmers and those 11 and over swimmers that have not yet met a Divisional time standard.  The deadline for opting out of these meets isSunday December 20th.  On the 21st if you have not opted out or declared for either meet I place your swimmer in the meet that is most appropriate.

Practice notes:
I hope to attend NP on Monday this week. The RHS Group 1 will practice on Wednesday this week.  The NPHS Group 1 will practiced Monday and Wednesday. No practice on Tuesday at NPHS due to a high school meet. No practice on Thursday due to Thanksgiving.

All of our NP swimmers are always welcome to attend practices at Riley when scheduling conflicts arise with the pool or when it is more convenient for their families schedule.

Group 2 swimmers need to bring dry-land clothes (running shoes, shorts, T-shirt) to practice on Friday.

Thank You!!
I would like to thank the Kaiser family (Natalee and her parents Jeff and Kim).  They were our first family to procure an advertiser for our website.  The company isCreative Colors International.  They specialize in leather, vinyl, plastic, and fabric repair.  They can recondition or upholster. If you click here you can go to our website to print off their coupon.  This business chose the premier ad plan.  Business make a direct payment to Team Unify (our website host) and then Team Unify sends our club a check minus their fee.  The Kaiser family received a $241.99 credit on their account, 50% of the money we received!!  That works out to almost 7 months of training fees for Group 2 or almost the same as five-3 day weekend meet entry fees.

The company is owned by Natalee's uncle.  He was looking for ways to help expand his company's footprint and find a way to give back to the community. When asked if he would be interested in advertising with us he jumped at the chance.  Nothing could be easier.  Thanks again to the Kaisers!

Meet Declaration
Our policy is all swimmers will be considered swimming in meets unless families choose to opt out.  This is having the outcome I was hoping for.  We have had more swimmers attending every one of our meets. Our participation at each of these meets has increased by an average of nearly 50% of athletes attending. While this has created a little more work on my end it has been more then worth it to me to have such a huge presence at the meets we are attending.  There has been an unforeseen hurdle for me with this new policy. It has proved a little difficult to find time to do all of our entries of the swimmers who had not committed prior to our deadline and still get our entry out to the meet host in a timely manner.  In a few instances this season I have moved over 40 swimmers from the "undeclared" list to the "committed" list.  I am asking that if you know you are attending a meet please commit your swimmer as early as you can.  This will alleviate some last minute work for me and also give me an opportunity to discuss with our coaches and your swimmers their event selection.

Group 2 Day at RHS Thursday December 3rd
Every year we invite our Group 2 swimmers to experience one of our high school meets.  This year it will be on Thursday December 3rd when Riley's boys and girls teams hosts Clay.  Our Group 2 swimmers will serve as timers for the meet and the club will provide them with pizza for dinner during the diving break.  The meet will start at 5:00 and we ask all the swimmers who are able to attend to arrive by 4:45.  Our double dual meets typically take between 2-2.5 hours.  We would like our club swimmers to wear their SBSC superman logo t-shirt to the meet.  I have added this meet to our calendar and the meet commitment function has been turned on.  We will be using this as an RSVP so we know how many pizzas to order.

SWAC Pre-lims Finals Meet
The SBSC athletes are swimming incredibly well on the first two days of the meet.  Several new best times and quite a few swims moving up the rankings in our All-Time Top Ten. I will update all of our meet result pages on our website as soon as I receive the file from SWAC.  You can follow the meet action today on the Meet Mobile app.

LaPorte Swim Club's Maple City ClassicDec 12th & 13th
The deadline for opting out of this meet istonight, Sunday November 22nd.  This meet has provided us with some very good competition from the northwest Indiana clubs.  It also is a very good meet for less experienced swimmers.  This meet is not typically full so our new swimmers can get some racing in an environment that does not feel so overwhelming.

I spoke with the IA head coach and he is going to allow us to send our entry a little later.  Our new deadline is Sunday December 6th.  I would like our high school athletes to attend this meet so they may swim their best non high school events.  It is a pre-lim final meet which will give them a little more experience with the meet format that is used at the state championship.

There is an away meet for NP on Thursday and since there are no other activities going on the building that night our club does not have access to the pool.  Coach Ashley and I are working on finding a solution for this and we will keep you updated as soon as we do.  All of our NP swimmers are always welcome to attend practices at Riley when scheduling conflicts arise with the pool or when it is more convenient for their families schedule.

Coach Ted will be the coach on deck for this meet. His phone number is (574) 360-9187. If for any reason you are running late and are unable to have your swimmer on deck at the times listed above please call or text Coach Ted to make sure your swimmer does not get scratched from the meet.

The Joy of Being on Time
As a someone who truly enjoys the solitude and the quiet of the morning being early to practice or meets has never been much of a challenge. In fact, I take quite a bit of pride on being the first coach of any team to nearly every meet we attend.  (In swimming everything is a race, right?) The first 15+ years of my coaching career I only had to worry about getting myself up and ready to leave as early or even earlier then needed.  Once my own children started competing it presented a completely new set of challenges.  Trying to get two ten and under swimmers (who are most certainly not morning people) ready to leave for an earlySaturday morning meet warm-up brought me more frustration then I could have ever imagined.  So please believe me I understand what most of you go through as you try to get your own kids out of the house on time.

Some of the many great things about our sport is teaches include time management, how to prioritize, and how to prepare and plan ahead.  Sometimes even with the best laid plans things can go wrong.  Power failures, inaccurate  directions to the pool, multiple start times listed in the meet letter, forgetting to set alarm, etc. etc.  While these things may happen meet hosts will not delay the start of the meet.  If these do happen to you it is imperative you call or text the coach on deck for that meet.  If the sign-in sheet is pulled prior to your swimmer signing in they may not get put back in the meet.  If they are put back in they may only get put back in events with open lanes in the first heat.  Or they may even get put in the opposite gender's event if space allows.  Both of these situations are less then ideal.  It call can be solved with a text or a phone call. Please, lets give our swimmers every opportunity for success and if your running late please call or text

Parent Shirt Order
A few parents have asked about another shirt order or the possibility of ordering a sweatshirt.  We would need a minimum order of 15 items to be purchased.  If you are interested in this please let me know by the end of the week

SBSC Requirements
Our registration platform includes documents that you were required to digitally sign for your swimmers membership to be approved.  In those documents the two items that carry significant financial implications are the birth certificate requirement and the auto-pay requirement.  We still have a few outstanding birth certificates and we also have a few new families who have not yet set up some sort of automatic payment.  Swimmers who have not turned in a birth certificate and those with out auto-pay will not be entered in any future meets until those requirements are met.

We also had a few families whose credit card's have expired and the transactions were unable to process.  Before I will be able to enter the swimmers of those families in any future meets those cards will need to be updated as well.

Parks and Rec Survey
We have been asked to help the South Bend Parks and Recreation Department with a survey to help them determine the level of service they are providing our community.  We are very fortunate to have been able to partner with the Parks and Rec and taking a few minutes to help is a great way to show our appreciation.  You can click here to get to that link

Upcoming Practice Schedule
You can click here to see the tentativecalendar.  As we start the month of November and for the next few months our schedule will not always be as consistent as it has been.  The calendar's on the website are tentative and are published for your planning purposes.  The weekly emails will have our actual schedule for that week.  Any last minute updates will be communicated through email and our social media sites.

As the winter season approaches we will be faced with school closings.  I want to remind our families of the South Bend Schools policy on outside groups using school facilities on days when school is canceled or when after school activities have been canceled.  We have been told that unless we have been give specific instructions otherwise, our practices are to be canceled as well.  This is, from my understanding, also the policy of the New Prairie schools.

Team Shirts
We still have a few team shirts that need to be picked up.  Coach Ashley has the NP swimmers shirts and I will bring the NP parent shirts to practice on Tuesday

Upcoming Practice Schedule
The November and December schedule is about 90% complete.  You can click here to see the calendar.  As we start the month of November and for the next few months our schedule will not always be as consistent as it has been.  The calendar's on the website our tentative and our published for your planning purposes.
