Weekly Announcements for Week of 3/28-4/3

Dear SBSC families,
Practice Schedule Here is the practice schedule for this week. Riley HS Group 1 next practice Tuesday April 13 G1 Elite next practice Monday April 12 Group 2 next practice Monday April 12 Group 3 next practice Monday April 12 New Prairie HS (only for NPUSC students) Group 1 next practice Monday April 12 Group 2 next practice Monday April 12 Group 3 next practice Monday April 12 Practice Notes: Enjoy your break! New Families Welcome to our several new families who have registered over the last two weeks. I am looking forward to meeting you and your athletes in person. We are planning a virtual new parent meeting for sometime in April. I am sure there are lots of questions and feel free to reach out to me anytime to ask. Age Group State Here is the final recap of AGS. We had a total of 18 swims and 16 were best times. 4 new team records and 12 others in our all-time top 10. With only 5 swimmers at the meet we ended up placing 46th overall. You can click here to see our results. Speedo Sectionals Our athletes are finishing the championship season strong. With 1 day and 4 swim lefts the SBSC athletes are re-writing our all time top 10 record board. We've raced 24 times had 22 best times, 19 in the top 10, and 3 of those were new team records. Spring/Summer Season 21 Our first practices will be the week of April 11th. If you are currently registered you do not need to do anything. When you registered in the fall you were signing up for an entire year. If you have family or friends who would like to join the club the spring/summer registration is open. Remember this is not for swimmers currently registered with the club during the fall and winter of 20/21. We have been given the clearance to increase our numbers at NP. We (Coach Ashley and myself) have decided in order to maintain quality control we are still going to limit our overall numbers at the NP site. While we are opening some spots it will still be, at least initially, limited. If you know of anyone who is interested I would let them know ASAP. At this time we have not set our schedule for the summer times at NP. We are waiting for some direction from the administration to what they will allow us to do. But, if we are anything like we were before we will have practices in the late afternoon, early evening. Practices for the spring in South Bend will return to Riley. We still have not been given an exact date as to when the pool will be ready but I was assured it will be ready by April 12. Due to several reason it looks like the updates on the the pool will be delayed until summer 2022. USA Swimming Guidelines-MAAPPUSA USA Swimming issued a directive with regards to electronic communication and social media contact between coaches and athletes. Most of what is being implemented is common sense and falls in line with our club's policies. One new requirement we will need to adhere to is how your minor child communicates with me. For several years I have asked swimmers in Group 2 and Group 3 to text/email me if they would be missing practice. Moving forward, swimmers will be instructed to include a parent on all communication with me.
If you are the parent of a Group 2 or Group 3 swimmer, and have never sent me a text before, please text me so I have your contact info in my phone. This way if I need to contact your swimmer about missing practice I can be sure to include you. My cell phone number is 574-276-6057.
I encourage all parents and swimmers to read the full policy. We are required to keep this policy on our website, here is the link. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. -- John VanDriessche Head Coach South Bend Swim Club South Bend Riley High School (574)276-6057 www.southbendswimclub.com #SBSCForLife
