Team Pool Party/Cookout Saturday August 12th
We will be having and end of season party at my house on the Saturday following Divisionals.  Swimmers along with their siblings and parents are all welcome to attend  My house is located at 205 Wrenwood Trail in North Liberty.  If you click on my address it will take you to a Google map on our website (you will need to be logged into to our site).  My house is about 20 minutes from Riley.  The club will provide the hot-dogs and drinks along with the eating utensils.  If you are attending please bring a dessert or side to share.  The party will be from noon to 4.

Team T-shirts for $ALE!
Over the years we have accumulated several team shirts.  We typically always order a couple more in each size, we have some that were never picked up by former swimmers, and even some from the lost and found.  We have multiple sizes but our largest inventory is in the youth small and youth medium.  All of these shirts are for sale.  The 50/50 cotton blend T-shirts are $5 and the dry-fit shirts are $10.  If you are interested in these shirts please come down to the pool office after practice.

Ava's Schedule
Ava will be meeting with Group 3 on Monday morning this week.

Fall/Winter Season
The on-line registration for the fall/winter season will be up and running on August 1st.  All families who wish to continue with the club will need to register at this time. Our first practice will be Tuesday September 5th

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago we will be instituting some changes for the upcoming fall/winter season.  Here are some of our new policies.

1. (Introduced 7-2) We will be returning to the old meet declaration process.  Swimmers will no longer be automatically entered in meets. If a parent wants a swimmer to compete in a meet they will need to commit them. When I changed the policy a few seasons ago the hope was that it would  encourage meet attendance.  It did not have a substantial impact on the number of swimmers attending meets.

2. (Introduced 7-2) Our training fees have been the same since our club started in 2006.  They will remain the same for all first season swimmers and for all swimmers who compete at least once a month.  Our primary mission is to be a competitive swim team and that requires competing.  If families choose not to have swimmers compete at meets they will pay a higher monthly training fee.  Group 1 swimmers will pay $35 (instead of $25), Group 2 will increase to $50 (instead of $35), and Group 3 will increase to $70 (instead of $50)  If meets are not offered during a month (September and April) there will not be any additional charges.

3. (Introduced 7-9) Group 3 swimmers will be required to volunteer for 4 hours each season.  Our Group 1 and Group 2 practices need lifeguards. Swimmers that are not certified lifeguards can volunteer to help by serving as an assistant to our coaches during those practice times. I anticipate all of the Group 3 swimmers being able to handle this requirement but for those that choose not to their will be a financial penalty equivalent to the cost of a paid lifeguard.

4. (Introduced 7-9) I've updated our tech suit policy.  I've changed some of the age requirements to be more aligned with our overall philosophy and clarified some language so every age group is covered.
You can click here to see our policy.

5. (Introduced 7-16) Meet expectations.  This will be a new document during our registration that will require a digital signature. This is being added so there is less confusion for parents and swimmers of what the SBSC expected meet behavior is for our club’s members.

6. (Introduced 7-16) Group 3 swimmers will be paying for the month of March.  Our high school swimmers will still not be charged for their time in February and the high school boys will still not be charged for their one week of November.  Over the years we have given 6-7 weeks of free swimming to our high school swimmers.  Swimmers will still receive at least two weeks of free swimming every fall/winter.

Advertising Credit
Selling a one year ad on our website could earn you anywhere from $50 to almost $500. Here is the link for more information.

Another easy way to earn credit for your swim club account is to hang our recruiting posters out in the public. For every poster you hang you will receive a $5 credit up to $25. Once you hang the poster post a pic of it on your Facebook page (or other social site) and tag the club.

Upcoming Meet & Dates/location/Deadline to commit
Below is our fall/winter meet schedule.  Swimmers wanting to compete will need to commit to those meets.  The deadlines are based on deadlines that were set last year. Practice notes: This is the last week of practice for the majority of our swimmers. There is no evening practice on Friday for any group.

Summer Divisonals
Concord High School August 5th & 6th
The deadline for committing to this meet is this evening.  If a swimmer has cuts the expectation is they will be competing.  During registration this is spelled out in the Terms and Conditions that requires your digital signature. It states: All swimmers, who are members of the South Bend Swim Club, are expected to participate at their highest level of achievement in the championship meets, including relays.  This is an excellent opportunity to end our season with some fast swimming.  It is relatively low cost meet, (nearby location that does not require a hotel stay).  It is also the last chance our swimmers will get to race for two months.  We strongly believe that swimmers must compete to not only improve their swimming but to be able to enjoy the full experience of being a swimmer

Age Group State
IUPUI Natatorium July 28-30
I have attached our entry and the meet letter.  Please review your swimmer's entry and if you notice any error let me know immediately.  I will be able to make changes through tomorrow but I must know prior to the end of practice Monday evening. I would also like to remind everyone of our policy of returning for finals.  If you qualify for a second swim you are expected to come back.  Our swimmers do not scratch from these opportunities.  If you are still in town (i.e. your swimmer is still competing and your have not left for home) swimmers are expected to return to finals even if we have one swimmer qualify to swim.  We need to be there to support our teammates.  Also, parents, please remember this is the state championships please do not treat this as a vacation.  Our swimmers have worked hard to get to this point and they deserve every opportunity to swim well.  The best thing you can do for your swimmer is to plan your meals in advance.  It will not do our swimmers any favors if you wait to eat dinner after finals when they have to return to the pool so early for the next morning's warm-ups.  Please plan ahead.  Here are the pertinent times for this weekend's meet:

Friday, Saturday, & Sunday Prelims
Warm-ups 6:30-7:45 our swimmers need to be on deck by 6:45
Meet starts 8:00

Friday, Saturday, & Sunday Finals
Warm-ups 4:00-4:45 -- our qualifying swimmers need to be on deck by 4:00
Meet starts 5:00 -- if we have swimmers swimming in finals, all swimmers still in town not qualifying need to be on deck by 5:00

Team Pool Party/Cookout Saturday August 12th

We will be having and end of season party at my house on the Saturday following Divisionals.  My house is located at 205 Wrenwood Trail in North Liberty.

It has been a very good weekend for our club with one day left to go.  I will update all the pertinent pages to our website sometime early this week.

Entering and Exiting The Building

In an effort to help with security of the building we will be using door #22 to enter and exit the building for the remainder of this season.  Door #22 is on the northwest corner of the building and faces Fellows Street.  If parents would like to stay and watch practice they will need to use the stairwell adjacent to door #22 to access the seating gallery.  If you arrive at the building and the door is locked please call my cell phone (574-276-6057) or Coach Ted (574-360-9187), or Coach Brion (574-315-5865).  We will be directing all swimmers to leave practice through this door so please plan to pick them up at that entrance.

For all of our Group 3 swimmers and Group 2 swimmers that will be entering high school next year; do not arrive on deck before noon on Saturday and Sunday.

Ava's Schedule
Ava will be meeting with Group 3 on Wednesday morning this week.

MSC Summer Splash & NASA Invite
The results have been uploaded to our website.  You can click here to see the MSC results and here to see the NASA results.  Our all time top ten for Short Course Yards (NASA Meet) and Long Course Meters (MSC Meet) have been updated as well as our qualifiers page in both SCY and LCM.  Congratulations to Autumn Baumgartner who set a new team record in the 13-14 girls 100 free (1:02.96) and to Sammy "The Snake" Sierra who set a new team record in the 13-14 boys 200 Fly (2:34.53).

IHSAA Moratorium Week 7/3-7/9
The week of July 3rd through July 9th has been designated as the moratorium week for high school athletes.  During this week the IHSAA forbids any contact with high school coaches and their athletes.  Because of this rule NP is not allowed to conduct any practices in their facilities during that week.  Since we our a program of the Parks and Rec and not a high school team we are still allowed to use Riley.  I will not be on deck during any practice time that Group 3 is in the water but I will be in the office area.  The other coaches will be covering practices.

For morning workouts swimmers are not to arrive at the building before 6:15 and before 4:45 for evening practices.

Last Practices For The Summer
These our tentative dates for the last practices for each group.
Group 1 Thursday July 27th
G1 Elite Monday July 24th
Group 2 Thursday July 27th
Group 3 (NPHS) Thursday July 27th
Group 3 (RHS) Friday August 4th.

We will have practices the first week of August for any Group 1 or Group 2 swimmers that are competing at Summer Divisionals.

Fall/Winter Season
Our on-line registration for the fall/winter season will be up and running no later the August 15th.  All families who wish to continue with the club will need to register at this time. Our first practice will be Tuesday September 5th

As I mentioned last week we will be instituting some changes for the upcoming fall/winter season.  Here are two of our new policies.

1. We will be returning to the old meet declaration process.

2. Our training fees have been the same since our club started in 2006.

Upcoming Meet & Dates/location/deadline to opt out
Below is our spring and summer meet schedule.  All swimmers are considered swimming in a meet unless a parent declines attending. I'm also asking if you know your swimmer will be attending please commit them to the meet. If the option to choose days is not yet available please leave a note as to which days you would like to attend.

Senior State Championships/July 20-23rd/Purdue/ next Sunday July 9th
Age Group State/July 27th-31st/IUPUI/Sunday July 16th
Summer Divisionals/August 5th & 6th/Concord High School/Sunday July 23rd
