Practice Notes:   NP families please make sure to use the main doors when entering the building at NPHS.  NP swimmers are allowed to attend their corresponding group's practice at Riley if it is more convenient for the family.  No practice on Thursday due to ThanksgivingThis Friday's Group 2 practice will not require any special dry-land clothes.  Swimmers attending the Friday Group 2 practice are asked to use door #22 to enter Riley.

Spirit Wear
The due date has been extended to Monday December 2nd.  NP families you can turn your order forms into Coach Ashley or Coach Kelli.  I will be driving to New Prairie after we finish practice at Riley on Monday the 2nd to pick up the forms.  I should arrive between 7:15 and 7:30 CST.

Just Add H2O
I received an email from Kathy, the owner of Just Add H20, regarding placing custom orders in time for Christmas presents.  All orders must be in by December 1st.  Any order placed after that time will not be guaranteed to be done before Christmas.  Please plan ahead.  This is a small shop with only few employees.  They are also the only local swim shop in the area.  An area that includes several club and high school teams.  Again, please plan ahead.

Laporte Maple City Classic December 7th & 8th
I spoke with the Laporte head coach yesterday and he informed me we could still add swimmers to our entry.  If you are still interested in attending this meet but are not currently attending please email me by this evening that you would like to attend.  Include in your email what day/days you would like your swimmer to be entered.

Goodie Bags
A couple of years ago we started providing goodie bags for our swimmers before all of our meets.  We did this for a couple of reasons.  We thought it would be a help to our new families if they had a printed list of their swimmer's events.  We also hoped it would serve as an enticement for our younger swimmers to want to swim in more meets.  To be honest I am not sure if either goal was achieved, but our staff and the swimmers seemed to like them and the cost was very low so we kept the policy.  Last Wednesday we handed out the bags at Riley.  After practice was completed I was double checking the locker rooms to see if everyone had left and I found an absolute mess.  This was not the first time, but by far the most debris left behind. (The boys were substantially messier then the girls.) Several bags, some with the events lists still attached, were crumbled up and thrown on the floor.  Multiple wrappers from the provided treats were also scattered about.  It was very disappointing.  We intend to speak with the entire team this week but I'd appreciate it if you'd also speak to your children.   One, about respecting the fact we are guests at RHS and should not be leaving any trash behind. Secondly, the goodie bags are a gift from the club and to carelessly leave them behind shows lack of appreciation for other people doing kind things for them.

Because of this lack of courtesy/appreciation we will not be providing bags for any of our meets in December.  We will try again starting in January and if a mess continues we will stop handing bags out altogether.

Group 2 Night at RHS Thursday December 5th
Each year we invite all of our Group 2 swimmers to help time at a RHS dual meet.  This year it will be on Thursday December 5th Vs. South Bend Clay.  We'd like everyone to arrive no later then 5:30 and to be wearing this season's team shirt.  If for some reason they do not have or have misplaced their shirt please wear a gray T-shirt.  The club will provide pizza and drinks for all those who are able to attend.  Families of Group 2 swimmers should have received an email notice/invitation to this event.  If your swimmer is able to help time please commit them to the meet so I will know how much pizza to purchase.

Elkhart Invitational
I will post our results and update all the pertinent pages on our website early this week.

Go Swim TV/CollegeSwimming.com/Deck Pass/OnDeck
Go Swim TV-the club purchased a membership from this site for our swimmers. The goal is to put up a video every day or so for swimmers to help with their technique.  To sign-up they'll need an email address.  Use this link: https://www.goswim.tv/groups/south-bend-swim-club

College Swimming-Earlier this season I was contacted by a college coach who was interested in one of our swimmers.  He was asking for information about this athlete because they had not yet filled out their profile on the CollegeSwimming.com website.  I was unaware of this service they offered.  The basic profile is free and could possibly be the first introduction your swimmer has to a college coach.  If your athlete has even the slightest interest in swimming beyond high school take advantage of this free service.  Any age swimmer can start a profile.  There will be limited recruiting features available until their sophomore year.  I have uploaded all of our meet results from the previous two years and will continue to do so as we compete in the future.  I hope we can use this site to leverage more opportunities for SBSC athletes to continue their swimming careers beyond their time with us.

Deck Pass app-USA Swimming offers an app for it's members.  You should have received an email invitation to join.  Here is what USA Swimming highlights about the app.

Earning digital patches by achieving a best time or a qualifying standard
Setting goals and utilizing visualization tools to follow their progress
Track their best times and meet participation
Lastly, swimmers can connect to their friends and follow along with each others accomplishments, providing a fun, supportive environment.

When we change to our new website next month you will also be able to access the Deck Pass from our website.  Currently it is just a mobile app available with iOS operating systems.  Here is a link that explains the app in more detail.

OnDeck app-this is an app is a must for all of our families.  An invitation has been sent to all families.  This app ties directly to our website and is very user friendly.  You can declare for meets, volunteer for jobs, check your account status, and anything else you can do from the website.

New USA Swimming Guidelines-MAAPP
USA Swimming issued a directive with regards to electronic communication and social media contact between coaches and athletes.  Most of what is being implemented is common sense and falls in line with our club's policies.  One new requirement we will need to adhere to is how your minor child communicates with me.  For several years I have asked swimmers in Group 2 and Group 3 to text/email me if they would be missing practice.  Moving forward, swimmers will be instructed to include a parent on all communication with me.

If you are the parent of a Group 2 or Group 3 swimmer, and have never sent me a text before, please text me so I have your contact info in my phone.  This way if I need to contact your swimmer about missing practice I can be sure to include you.  My cell phone number is 574-276-6057.

I encourage all parents and swimmers to read the full policy.  We are required to keep this policy on our website, here is the link

Fall and Winter Meet Schedule/Dates of Meet/Location/Deadline to commit
Below is our fall/winter meet schedule. The first date listed is the day(s) of the meet and second date is the deadline to commit. Swimmers wanting to compete will need to commit to those meets.  The deadlines are based on deadlines that were set last year (or best guess for new meets). They may change once the meet hosts posts the meet information.  When committing to multiple day meets please if the option to select the days you want is not available, please leave a message in the available notes section of the specific days you would like to attend. For our 11 and over swimmers this is a prelim and finals meet.  The fastest 20 swimmers from prelims in the 11-12 and 13-14 age groups and the fastest 30 swimmers in the 15 and over age group will qualify for finals. It is the swimmer's responsibility to check if they have qualified for finals prior to leaving the pool.  Our policy is if your swimmer qualifies for finals they are expected to compete in finals.  If there has been a prior conversation where your swimmer is unable to make finals due to a prior commitment this will be the only time an exception will be made.  Being tired on Sunday evening after a long weekend of racing is not a reason to scratch from finals.  Championship meets from Divisionals on up follow this format.  This is excellent experience for our athletes.  Please help them live up to their commitment

Meets marked with an * are meets that require swimmers to meet certain time standards.  All pool locations can be found on our website under the "Pools" tab
