Weekly Announcements for Week of 7/31-8/6

Dear SBSC families, Practice Schedule Riley HS Group 1 Next Practice Tuesday September 6 G1 Elite Next Practice Wednesday September 7 Group 2 Next Practice Tuesday September 6 Group 3 AM Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 6:30-8:30 New Prairie HS Group 1 Next Practice Tuesday September 6 Group 2 Next Practice Tuesday September 6 Group 3 Next Practice Tuesday September 6 Practice Notes: We will only be offering Group 3 practices this week. We will start each practice in the weight room. Any Group 3 athlete (Riley or NP) and any Group 2 athlete that has attended morning workouts is welcome to attend. Fall/Winter Season Our first practice for all groups will be the Tuesday after Labor Day, September 6. All swimmers will need to re-register. The plan is to have our on-line registration platform up and running by Monday August 8. There will be some changes for the upcoming season. 1. My role with Group 1 and Group 2 during the school year will be greatly reduced. As most of you know Cooper is entering his senior year and Molly will be a freshman. What most of you probably do not realize is my family has not sat down and had dinner with each other on a school night, ever. Since Cooper will be leaving for school in about 13 months I feel it's time I change that before the opportunity is gone forever. I say this not looking for sympathy, my choices have been my choices. I am, however, hoping there is understanding. The summer of 23 I plan to be back to the same level of on deck presence that I have always had. (First announced 7-11) 2. We will be enforcing the 4 hour volunteer requirement for all Group 3 athletes. In conjunction with this we will offering a lifeguarding class for all of our athletes that are 15 and over. This class will be August 13 and 14 at Riley High School. This class will be at no cost to our athletes but they will be required to guard additional hours at our practices to cover the cost. If an athlete is currently a lifeguard we will pay for their recertificiation in exchange for more hours guarding our practices. Every athlete that is 16 or over registered with the class will also certified to a USA Swimming Junior Coach. Again, this cost will be covered by the club. Info below. (First announced 7-11) 3. We have signed with a new suit company and our contract begins this fall. Our new company is called A3 Performance. Our plan is to have a team store up and runnig by the first week of practice. You can check out their website and what they have to offer by clicking here. (First announced 7-18) 4. During the Covid summer if a visitor was to watch our practice they would be hard pressed to determine what team was practicing. Very little SBSC caps or apparel were worn. We had caps, T-shirts, and bags from college teams, high school teams, and former club teams. I decided at that time no cap was to be worn at practice unless it was a team issued SBSC cap. There is little doubt now if a visitor were to come to one of our Group 2 or 3 practices what team was in the water. We have allowed for one day a week where swimmers can wear whatever cap they own. Those are our Fun Cap Fridays. Starting this coming season we are going to require our Group 1 athletes who wear caps to be wear our team caps during their practice. We will also be requiring all athletes, specifically our Group 3 swimmers, to wear only club T-shirts and apparel at meets. Any bags, hoodies, or shirts representing another team are not to be brought to meets. (First announced 7-18). 5. We will be requiring athletes, who are in their second season or later, to attend meets or pay a higher training fee. If there is a meet offered, in any given month, athletes will need to attend at least one session of those offered. If they do not, Group 3 will be billed an additional $25 each month, Group 2- $15, and Group 1- $10. (First announced 7-24). 6. USA Swimming Memberships. USA Swimming is now requiring parents to register their athletes on their website. You will still go through our on-line registration. SBSC will no longer charge the $85 in the initial registraion fees. If you start practice on the 6th you will be required to register your athlete on their site by September 30. If you are joining at a later date you have 30 dates after your first practice. (First announcemd 7-31). Lifeguard/Coach Training August 13 and 14 We would like to have a minimum of 10. If your swimmer is intereted please have them reach out to Coach Kelli or Coach Brett (kellinotteboom@gmail.com or bcfm1777@gmail.com). Athletes will be sent an online learning link on August 6th. To register our coaches will need an email address (swimmers should avoid using their school email address if possible) and the proper spelling of their first and last name. The online portion will need to be passed before moving on to the in-person training. The in-person portion of the class will be on the 13th and the 14th at Riley high school from 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM each day. If you have any questions about the class please contact one of the coaches. Summer Divisionals If you are running late please send Coach Carol a text at 574-292-0553. Here are the pertinent times for today's meet. Sunday Prelims for 11 and over swimmers Warm-ups 6:45-7:45 -- our athletes should be on deck by 6:30 Meet Starts 8:00 Sunday Timed Finals for 10 and under swimmers Warm-ups 11:15-11:45 -- our athletes should be on deck by 11:00 Meet Starts 12:00 Sunday Finals for 11 and over swimmers Warm-ups 2:15-3:00 -- our athletes should be on deck by 2:00 Meet Starts 3:15 USA Swimming Guidelines - MAAPP/Safe Sport USA Swimming issued a directive with regards to electronic communication and social media contact between coaches and athletes. Most of what is being implemented is common sense and falls in line with our club's policies. One new requirement we will need to adhere to is how your minor child communicates with me. For several years I have asked swimmers in Group 2 and Group 3 to text/email me if they would be missing practice. Moving forward, swimmers will be instructed to include a parent on all communication with me.
If you are the parent of a Group 2 or Group 3 swimmer, and have never sent me a text before, please text me so I have your contact info in my phone. This way if I need to contact your swimmer about missing practice I can be sure to include you. My cell phone number is 574-276-6057.
I encourage all parents and swimmers to read the full policy. We are required to keep this policy on our website, here is the link. Spring and Summer Meet Schedule/Dates of Meet/Location/Deadline to commit Below is our spring/summer meet schedule. The first date listed is the day(s) of the meet and second date is the deadline to commit. Swimmers wanting to compete will need to commit to those meets. This week we will not be offering practices at NPHS, but those athletes are welcome to attend practices at Riley. I will be at practice but I will not be on deck. I will be sequestered in the office and available to meet with any non-high school swimmer or any parent. All high school swimmers (or soon to be high school swimmers) are not be in the office for any reason. Swimmers are not to arrive prior to 6:20 AM or 4:50 PM. No swimmer will be allowed into the building until another coach arrives. Once in the building swimmers should enter and exit the pool through the locker rooms. USA Swimming Guidelines - MAAPP/Safe Sport USA Swimming issued a directive with regards to electronic communication and social media contact between coaches and athletes.
The deadlines are based on deadlines that were set in previous years. They may change once the meet hosts posts the meet information. When committing to multiple day meets if the option to select the days you want is not available, leave a message in the available notes section of the specific days you would like to attend. Meets marked with an * are meets that require swimmers to meet certain time standards. All pool locations can be found on our website under the "Pools" tab.
