Weekly Announcements for Week of 10/25-10/31

Dear SBSC families,

3rd Annual Swim-A-Thon

A huge THANK YOU to everyone that participated yesterday.  I could not be more proud of the way all of our swimmers and families responded to the challenge of meeting our fund-raising goal.  In the last 7 days we have raised almost $5000!!  We went from 35 swimmers contributing to 77!!  While it is still not 100% participation it certainly is a big improvement over where we were 1 week ago.  It also is big jump from the 53 swimmers who collected donations last year and beat our previous best of 69 swimmers from 2 years ago.  If your swimmer was collecting donations based on the number of lengths they swam they have until Friday to turn in the money.  On-line donations will also still be available through Friday.

A special thank you to Dr. Kyle Hoskins ofInVision Eyecare Center who graciously provided the coffee and donuts for our lap counters.

This has been a very active month for our club 3 with consecutive Saturday meets then yesterday's Swim-A-Thon.  I know I probably do not say it enough to our members, but thank you.  Thank you for being part of our SBSC swimming family, thank you for supporting us, and thank you for trusting us to be part of your children's lives.   Even after writing it four times I realize the words thank you do not fully express my appreciation and gratitude I have for all of you and your contributions you have made to our club.  It doesn't seem possible SBSC will be 10 years old in the spring and we would have never made it to this point without the dedication from our swimmers and their families!

SWAC Pre-lim Finals Meet Southside High School, Ft Wayne November 20th - 22nd
The deadline for declining for this meet is the Wednesday October 21st.  This is an ideal mid season meet for any of our swimmers who have aspirations of swimming in the season ending championship meets.  It provides a great opportunity to experience a pre-lim/final meet format.  For the families choosing to stay in Ft. Wayne for the weekend it will also provide some very practical experience in how to prepare to swim well when staying away from home.

This meet is open to the entire team but is not appropriate for our brand new swimmers.  For those swimmers I recommend declining attendance.

For this meet and the remainder of the meets through the end of the high school season Group 3 swimmers will not be automatically entered in meets.  If a high school swimmer wants to compete in a meet they must commit to attend

Dual Meet Vs.CON

I should be receiving the results sometime today.  I will update all of our pertinent information as soon as I receive the results file.

3rd Annual Swim-A-Thon This Saturday Oct 24th

As of this morning we have 35 swimmers who have received donations.  We are just over 75% of the way to our goal with only a few days left to our Swim-A-Thon. If your swimmer has been collecting pledges for laps those are due no later the Friday the 30th.  If you have received donations or off-line donations of cash or checks please bring those in this week so they can be approved and credited to your swimmer.

We are also in the need for parents to help count laps for our swimmers.  We will provide coffee and donuts for the parents who are able to help.  Our Group 1 swimmers will do their laps in the diving well and our Group 2 and Group 3 swimmers will do their laps in the main pool.

If swimmers have not collected any donations or pledges they will be still expected to participate in this team event.  Our Group 1 swimmers will also have games and relays throughout the 2 hours we are in the pool and it is a great team bonding activity for these swimmers.  Our Group 2 and Group 3 swimmers will receive an extra day of valuable training we do not typically receive on Saturdays

NASA Sprint Meet, Northridge High School, November 7th & 8th

The individual entries are done and you can view your swimmer's events by logging onto your account or by using your OnDeck Parent app on your smart phone.  The relays will be added as soon as I receive the results file from CON.  I will also update our individual entries with any new best times.

I will be attending NP on Tuesday this week. NP's Group 3 Wednesday practice has been moved to 5:00-7:30 due to a scheduling conflict.

Group 2 swimmers need to bring dry-land clothes (running shoes, shorts, T-shirt) to practice on Friday.  All NP Group 2 and Group 3 swimmers may attend Friday practices at Riley High School.  NP Group 3 swimmers are allowed to attend either the scheduled Group 2 or Group 3 Friday practice.

Committing/Declining Meet Attendance
Yesterday we had multiple swimmers not attend our meet without informing me or anyone else on our coaching staff.  Over the years we have had a few swimmers, on rare occasions, miss a meet without notifying the staff.  I knew with our new meet commitment policy that number was very likely to increase.  I hope in time we can get this number close to zero.  Please, if you do not want to attend a meet decline attending.  It really only takes a few minutes and could save you a considerable amount of money

Parent T-shirts
If you ordered any shirts those charges were placed on your account. The charges will be withdrawn automatically along with any other charges the first of the month.

Team Directory
A directory is attached to this email.  I will be posting on our website and when its available only registered members, logged into our site will be able to access this information

OnDeck Parent App
For all of our new families that are unaware our website host offers an app that directly ties into our database. It is called OnDeck Parent and is available for Android and Apple devices.  With this app you will be able to check your swimmers meet entries, attendance, account balance, past meet results, news items posted to our website,  and sign up for jobs at meets we host or attend.  Your password is your log in email for our website and our team alias is insbsc

3rd Annual Swim-A-Thon Saturday Oct 24th

The Swim-A-Thon fundraiser has been turned on and you should see the banner at the top of our homepage.  If not you canclick here to get there.

As of this morning we only have 14 swimmers who have received donations.  On Thursday I sent out our registrations to USA Swimming and we are at 122 athletes this season.  My hope is everyone has just been a little busy and will start their fundraising soon.  If every swimmer raised as little as $50 we easily surpass our goal.  If you need help with setting any of this up please see me after any practice and I will be more then happy to walk you through the steps

The money we raise this season is going to invested in the club a little differently.  Our fist SAT we purchased underwater cameras and recording devices.  Last year we purchased a ton of dry-land and other training equipment.  This year about 1/3 of the money raised will go to some new training equipment.   Our primary purchase of this portion of money will be tempo trainers.  Around 15% will go to operational costs, including the 5% we are required to send to the USA Swimming Foundation.  I am hoping to spend 50% of the money raised on marketing and advertising for our club.  I have some ideas for this but if you have any you would like to share please let me know.

I have pledge forms and receipts in the pool office if you swimmer would like to collect donations/pledges this way
