NPHS Parent Meeting 9-8
The parent meeting for the NP satellite will be on the first night of practice,Tuesday the 8th.  This will be a general information meeting about the club and is for anyone who might be thinking about joining our program.  The meeting will begin at 6:00 (CDT) and the goal is to finish by 7:00

RHS Parent Meeting 9-22
Our fall parent meeting for the RHS training groups is schedule for Tuesday September 22nd at 6:00 PM in the RHS Cafeteria.  At least one adult from each family should be in attendance.  The meeting is scheduled for 60 minutes but I will stay and answer question as long as needed.  I will be covering several topics including all of the proposed changes and the philosophical reasons behind them.  Please mark the date on your calendar

Intra-Squad Tuesday September 29that Riley High School
This is our annual intra-squad meet/pizza party for our swimmers and their families.  This meet is for both our RHS an NPHS groups.  The meet is South Bend time.  We would like all swimmers to be on deck by 5:30. The meet will start at 6:00.  Every swimmer, like all of our meets this season, is assumed to be swimming.   If your swimmer will be unable to make the meet you will need to decline attendance with the "Edit Commitment" button you can find on the event page by Monday September 28th.

The meet will last aproximatly 60-75 minutes followed by a team pizza dinner/potluck in the RHS cafeteria. The club will provide the pizzas and drinks.  We are asking families to bring their favorite dish to share.  Families A-M bring their favorite dessert (no brownies) and families N-Z bring their favorite side dish.

Tri-Meet Vs DUNE/HOT Saturday 10-3

This meet was originally set for Friday the 2nd. Last week Laporte let us know there was a conflict with their pool schedule.  We are not scheduled forSaturday the 3rd . This is a great introductory meet for our new swimmers.  This is also an excellent opportunity for our more experienced swimmers to get some valuable race experience.  This meet will only cost $2 for each swimmer and they cold swim up to 3 events. Start times have not been established for the meet but it most likely will be a morning meet. If your swimmer will be unable to make the meet you will need to decline attendance with the "Edit Commitment" button you can find on the event page by Wednesday September 30th.

NCISC Sprint Meet Saturday 10-10

This is an entire team meet.  It is being held at Riley high school.  This will be the first actual meet we are hosting this season.  This is another opportunity to swim in a meet that is very inexpensive.  Swimmers could swim up to 3 individual events and 2 relays and the total cost will be $6.  We will be running a hospitality and concession stand and we are looking for coordinators and volunteers.  More information will be coming soon.  If your swimmer will be unable to make the meet you will need to decline attendance with the "Edit Commitment" button you can find on the event page by Sunday October 4th.

Vs.CON Dual Meet Saturday 10-17

This our annual get together with the Concord Swim Team.  We will do a combined group 3 warm-up/short practice with Concord's high school swimmers. Concord will provide a breakfast for all those that attended the combined warm-up.  Our Group 3 swimmers need to be on deck at 6:45.  All other swimmers need to be on deck by 8:00.  The meet starts at 9:00.  We have been asked to provide at least 15 timers.  Please volunteer!   If your swimmer will be unable to make the meet you will need to decline attendance with the "Edit Commitment" button you can find on the event page by Sunday October 11th .

3rd Annual Swim-A-Thon Saturday Oct 24th

The Swim-A-Thon fundraiser has been turned on and you should see the banner at the top of our homepage.  If not you can click here to get there.  The money we raise this season is going to invested in the club a little differently.  Our fist SAT we purchased underwater cameras and recording devices.  Last year we purchased a ton of dry-land and other training equipment.  This year about 1/3 of the money raised will go to some new training equipment.   Our primary purchase of this portion of money will be tempo trainers.  Around 15% will go to operational costs, including the 5% we are required to send to the USA Swimming Foundation.  I am hoping to spend 50% of the money raised on marketing and advertising for our club.  I have some ideas for this but if you have any you would like to share please let me know

Fall/Winter Season
Here are some changes we will have in place for this season

1. Registration will now be for an entire year for both short course and long course seasons (1st announced 7-5).I've recently received several questions from our members about this change.  I apologize for not being very clear on what this will entail.  Generally speaking this will not change things for the majority of our families.  It eliminates a second registration for those who swim year round and choose to pay by the month or by the season.  Our policy for leaving the team has not changed either.  If I receive an email prior to the first of any month saying your swimmer will not be swimming you will not be charged for that month.  The one change would be for those families not swimming for the spring and summer. I would need to receive an email from you prior to April 1st stating your swimmer will not be participating for the spring and summer.

2. All swimmers will be considered swimming in a meet unless a parent chooses to opt out of the meet by using our "attend/decline" function of our website (1st announced 7-12)
3. Volunteer requirement.  It has not been determined exactly how this will look or be implemented but all families of our club will be required to volunteer a certain number of sessions of the events we attend or host.. (1st announced 7-19)

6. New Prairie Satellite.  I will meet with the NP head coach this week and should have some more details to share soon (1st announced 8/8)

I am looking for ways on how I can alleviate the cost of membership with our club and I hope to be able to share some more information with you at our parent meeting.

I realize there are a lot of changes coming for this season and change can be uncomfortable at times.  Please know decisions that are made are what I view are for the best long term success of our swimmers and our club.  I am also aware some of you will want to discuss these changes and I will make myself available whenever you would like to discuss them

I just wanted to say thank you to our 9 athletes (Abby K, Aiden M, Alexis J, Autumn B, Bryce K,  Evie S, Forrest B,  Sammy S, and Skylar J) who competed last weekend.  You represented our team incredibly well.  Congrats to those who were able to squeeze out some more fast swimming.  Two of the highlights included Aiden lowering his team record in the 400 free and Forrest got his first individual Senior State cut.  Great job swimmers!

Team Gear Bags

Age Group State Meet

Congratulations to Coach Ted and our all of our Age Group swimmers.  We finished in 20th place!  This makes us top 20 in both Senior and Age Group.  We are the only South Bend based team that can make that statement!

We also had 18 new team records set.  The following swimmers set records: Evie Sierra in the 13-14 girls 200 fly (2:28.59)
Autumn Baumgartner in the 11-12 girls 50 back (32.32), 50 free (28.76), 100 back (1:11.21), and 100 free (1:02.21)

Sammy Sierra in the 11-12 50 breast (40.13), 50 fly (30.88), 100 breast (1:25.87), 100 fly (1:09.86), 200 fly (2:38.20), and 200 IM (2:39.55)
Aiden Maurer in the 13-14 boys 50 back (33.28), 100 back (1:09.98), 200 free (2:11.32), 400 free (4:36.16), 400 IM (5:22.49), 800 free (9:45.44), and 1500 free (18:09.79)

Our relays also did an outstanding job lowering our team records in 4 events
Our 11-12 girls relay of Autumn, Melodie Thibault, Gabby Costa, and Lauren Meyer broke our team record by 5 seconds in the 200 free relay
Our 13-14 boys relays of Aiden, Bryce Knight, Sam Burns, and Cody Mowers set records in the 200 free, 200 medley, and 400 medley

A special congratulations to Aiden Maurer.  In his last long course swim meet as an age grouper he closes out his career as our most decorated 13-14 boy in club history.  Of the 15 events in his age group he holds 8 records, 2nd in two others, and in our all time top ten in the rest.  Looking forward to watching him attack our senior records as he ages up.  Congratulations Aiden!

Junior Nationals-Central Zones-Divisionals
This has been a very busy weekend for SBSC swimmers.  It may be the first time we have had swimmers competing at three different sites at the same time.  We have had some very fast swimming and I will post all the results as soon as they are available

End of Season Team Pool Party
We will be having an end of the year pool party at my home this Saturday August 8th from 1:00-5:00.  The club will provide hot dogs, drinks, and all the eating utensils.  If you are planning on attending please bring your favorite side dish to pass.

2015-2016 Registration
Our on-line registration platform will be operational no later then Sunday August 9th.  Here are some changes we will have in place for next season

1. Registration will now be for an entire year for both short course and long course seasons (1st announced 7-5)
2. All swimmers will be considered swimming in a meet unless a parent chooses to opt out of the meet by using our "attend/decline" function of our website (1st announced 7-12)
3. Volunteer requirement.  It has not been determined exactly how this will look or be implemented but all families of our club will be required to volunteer a certain number of sessions of the events we are involved in. (1st announced 7-19)
4. All swimmers will be allowed to practice in March regardless if they have qualified for any championship meets (1st announced 7-26)

After much thought and discussion with our staff we will be implementing a tech suit policy for our swimmers.  It is our opinion these suits have become a psychological crutch and may actually hinder long term development of our swimmers.  This policy will evolve, but will start with two general tenets. The first, no group 1 swimmer (10 and under) regardless of ability or achievement level will be allowed to wear a tech suit.  For swimmers 11 and up, they must have at least a Divisional time standard and will only be allowed to wear a tech suit when it has been approved by a coach. This new policy will be one of the documents you will be required to digitally sign during registration.

As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me
