Swim-A-Thon at Riley High School This Saturday October 21st
As of this morning we are just 40% of our way towards our goal with only 6 days left.  We now 34 out of our 130 swimmers find someone to donate.  Thank you to those 34, but, by any measure this should be considered a failure. This is our 5th Swim-A-Thon we've hosted and we have never failed to reach our goal in the other 4.

This is the only fundraising we do for the entire year and it is imperative for our operating budget.  We have had increasing costs over the year's, like any growing business does, but we have been able to keep our training fees as low as we have because of the success of our Swim-A-Thons.    This requires a team effort.

We will also be needing volunteers to help count our swimmers laps.  I will be supplying coffee and donuts for everyone who is able to come and help on on Saturday.  Yes, I realize this is three Saturdays in a row I have asked for your help.  October is an incredibly busy month for us and this may be one of the last things you will be asked to help with until our meet in February.

NASA Sprint Meet Plus
The deadline to commit to this meet is tonight. When some of our families committed to this meet the option to select which days you wanted to attend was not available. Some of you left a note to which days you wanted to swim, thanks. If you did not leave a note and you don't want your swimmer to swim both days of this meet please email me.  If there are no sessions selected, and I do not hear from you I will assume you want them in both days.

Concord Dual Meet
Although we came up a little short on the scoreboard it was a great meet experience for the entire club.  Some of our new swimmers took part in their first meet and several others got to swim events for the very first time.  Our more experienced kids were dropping time in multiple events, not something that always happens in October. Thanks to all the parents who volunteered to help time.  Also, thanks to all the families and swimmers that were able to make it out to Wings Etc. yesterday as well.  I will post the results as soon as I receive them.  There were some issues with some of the events and it make take a day or two to get them resolved.  I hope to have them by Tuesday.

Golden Goggles
The Golden Goggles is USA Swimming's annual awards ceremony for their athletes and coaches.  It also serves as their fundraiser for the USA Swimming  Foundation.  Each year they recognize several outstanding performances.  This year one of our very own has been nominated for an award.  Bethany Galat, a senior at Texas A&M and former SBSC member, has been nominated for the "Breakout Performer of the Year".  You can click here to read Bethany's short bio and to cast your vote for her.

Team T-shirts
I will be picking up the team T-shirts this week and have them ready for pick up at the Swim-A-Thon on Saturday.  I may also have the team suits you ordered from Just Add H20.

Increased Fees this Month
As I mentioned at the parent meeting those swimmers choosing not to participate in competitions will pay a higher training fees.  If your swimmer did not participate in the meet yesterday or the meet we hosted on the 7th you will see and additional charge on your account.  This does not apply to swimmers in their first competitive season.

Message From South Bend Venues Parks & Arts Department
I have been asked to share this with our membership:
Over the last decade you helped us dream up a better park system through community forums, our City Comprehensive Plan, Parks 5-Year Master Plan, Riverfront Parks and Trails framework, and more.  You came up with some great ideas and helped us form an innovative and comprehensive plan for what the future of those parks will look like. A few of those project are underway, but we now have the opportunity to make them all happen! Through a mixture of private funding, TIF dollars, and two different bonds, the City would be able to fully fund proposed projects in over 37 of our city’s parks – all without raising taxes or increasing city debt. The City is holding a number of meetings to make decisions on the bond financing for these projects. We need your voice at these meetings to help make these projects come to fruition. Please consider attending the meetings below to say, “I support My SB Parks and Trails.” Park Board members and the Common Council want to hear support from residents. The next meetings are:

Park Board Meeting
Monday, October 16th
5:00 p.m.
321 E. Walter St., O'Brien Admin Building

Common Council Meeting
Monday, October 23rd
7:00 p.m.
125 S. Lafayette Blvd. 4th floor, County-City Building

Complete project list and details are available at mysbparksandtrails.com.

If you are unable to attend either of these meetings, please consider emailing the park board or common council members. Their emails and a sample letter of support is attached.

Thank you,
Jackie
