Dear SBSC families,
On May 1st 2006 the South Bend Swim Club held its first ever practice. Ten years later we are still going strong. I would like to personally thank all of our swimmers and their families, past and present, who have made this possible. I'd especially like to thank the South Bend Parks and Recreation Department for allowing this "experiment" to take place and to become such an integral part of so many young athletes journey. I know words will never come close to expressing the gratitude I feel towards each and every one of you. So many people have made contributions to our program it would be nearly impossible to thank you all. But, I would be remiss if I did not thank our coaching staff. We have had so many different coaches make huge impacts on the lives of our swimmers and my life in particular. I am reminded everyday how lucky I am when some of the most important people in my life know me only as "Coach". My biggest thank you is reserved for my A team of Jill, Cooper, and Molly. I couldn't do what I do without your understanding and support. Thank you for allowing me to do what I love and being able to share my passion with so many others. Thanks everyone for this decade long roll coaster ride and I can't wait to see what the next 10 years has in store for the South Bend Swim Club. #SBSCForLife

Meet Entry Procedures
Last fall we implemented a new meet entry procedure. It is now assumed all swimmers will be competing in a meets unless parents chose to opt out by selecting that option when clicking on the button that says "Decline/Attend" or "Edit Commitment". The reason for the change was I felt it would increase our meet participation, something I believe is very important for our swimmer's overall development. What I do not want to happen is to enter swimmers into meets their parents do not want them to attend. Please parents, if you know you do not want your swimmer in a meet please choose to opt out.
NASA Meet Saturday
The meet is being held at Northridge High School in Middlebury, IN. You can click here for a map to the pool. You can click here to view the PDF of our entry. I have also attached the meet letter to help answer any questions you may have. Please have your swimmers events and numbers written on their hands prior to arriving at the meet. Here are the pertinent time for this Saturday's meet.
AM Session for 10 and under swimmers
Meet Starts at 8:00
PM Session for 11 and over swimmers
Warm-ups 12:00-12:45 (our swimmers need to be on deck by 11:45)
Meet starts at 1:00
IA Invitational May 20th-22nd
The entry for this meet has not been sent. The host club does not start accepting entries for this meet until 12:01 AM on May 2nd. If you would like to change your swimmers entry status for this meet I will need to know by no later then 8:00 PM this evening.
Lakeshore Aquatics Invite and CON Invite
The deadline for both of these meets is tonight. The CON Invite is a team meet and all swimmers are assumed swimming. If you do not opt of this meet by the deadline your swimmer will be entered in the meet.
The Lakeshore Aquatics Invite is for those swimmers that fall into the 11&O+Div Q+ category. If your swimmer is in this category they will be automatically entered in this meet unless you choose to opt out.
This meet is a little unique for us. It is the first in-season meet they we have competed that is outside of Indiana. Clubs in Indiana follow certain guidelines for meet entries that we are accustomed to, including a block of dates when entries will be accepted. This meet has on open ended entry procedure. They are accepting entries at any time and will close as soon as the meet is full. They have not published their entry file yet and as soon as they do I will complete our entry and send it out. The meet letter for this meet can be found by clicking here.
New Parent Meeting
Thank you to all the parents that were able to make the meeting. One of the topics we discussed was the OnDeck Parent app. This is an excellent tool and I recommend it for everyone on our club. This app ties directly into our website. You can update your account, check your swimmer's attendance, and view your upcoming invoice. This is a free app and is available for Apple and Android devices. The password is the same we have for the website and our team alias is insbsc.
Team T-shirts
Please check the sizes you have listed for you swimmers on your account page. I will be placing the order tomorrow morningMonday May 2nd. Shirts are also available for purchase for other family members. If you would like a shirt or shirts let me know by tonight, Sunday May 1st. This season shirts will be dry-fit similar to last season. The cost for each shirt is $12 and will be added on to your account.
New Things Happening for SBSC
Last week I had two important meetings with individuals who will be working with our club. The first was a graduate student studying sports psychology. She did not want me to mention her name yet until she has final approval from her advisers. But if all things go well she will be working with our athletes starting in June. I am looking forward to adding this important component into our program.
I also met with Scott Franko, president of Franko Design (also of Building Impressions, US Signcrafters, and the Sign Shop). He has agreed to work with our club over the next few months to help us with our marketing and promoting of our club.
Club Advertising for Account Credit
Our website allows for local merchants to advertise and offer coupons/specials directly on our site. Here is a link to the information page. Your swim club account will receive 50% of any money the club receives from companies that you have sold advertising space to on our website. If your able to sell one Premier Ad Plan you will receive a $242 credit! That could possibly pay for all of your meet entry fees for this season!!
We still have plenty of posters left to distribute. If you know of anywhere that might allow us to place our poster please ask. Every poster displayed in a business, school, or church will earn a $5 credit for your swim club account.
