New Prairie swimmers are welcome to attend their corresponding group's practice at Riley. NP Group 1 is on Monday and Thursday this week due to Coach availability. Parent Meetings The parent meeting for the NPHS site will be tomorrow Monday September 26 at 6:00 PM CST. We will meet in the pool area. The meeting for RHS will be Tuesday September 27 at 6:00 PM and we will meet in the cafeteria. The cafeteria is on the 2nd floor and is a short walk from the spectator gallery. All parents are welcome to attend but the meetings will be geared more for our newer families. Intra-Squad Meet -- Oct. 7 -- Riley High School This is our annual intra-squad meet/pizza party for our swimmers and their families. This meet is for both our RHS an NPHS groups and is being held at Riley High School. The meet is South Bend time. We would like all swimmers to be on deck by 5:30. All of our swimmers are assumed to be swimming at this meet. If your swimmer is unable to make the meet you will need to decline attendance with the "Edit Commitment" button in the OnDeck app or by logging into our website. The meet will last 60-75 minutes followed by a team pizza dinner/potluck in the RHS cafeteria. The club will provide pizzas and drinks. We are asking families to bring their favorite dish to share. Families A-M bring their favorite side dish and families N-Z bring their favorite dessert. This is a team event that requires help from our parent group. We will need help timing, setting up the cafeteria, and most importantly cleaning the cafeteria at the end of the event. Swim-A-Thon -- Oct. 15 -- Riley High School Thank you to the families who have started their fundraising. We currently have just 25 out of our 129 swimmers that have received donations. This is the only fundraising we do for the entire year. We need all swimmers to participate. Please help!! RHS Pool Down for Maintenance We were informed on Friday they will be shutting the RHS pool down for some routine maintenance over the fall break. We will not be offering practices on Thursday 10/20 or Friday 10/21. I was told it will be up and running first thing Monday morning. Spirit Wear During registration you were charged $20. That fee covered a team swim cap and T-shirt. Swimmers, if they haven't already, will receive their caps this week. Please double check the size you listed for your swimmer when you registered. We will be ordering shirts at the end of this week. We are also working with our vendor to have a spirit wear order form for the parents. As soon as that gets put together it will be sent out in the weekly email Volunteer Hours For Group 3 Athletes We are in need of a lifeguard for this Friday to cover the Group 2 practice. This is for one hour starting at 5:30. The job sign-up for volunteering has been set up for Riley. All athletes in this group will be required to volunteer 4 hours between now and the end of the winter season. Due to practices at NP running simultaneously we may not be able to offer volunteer opportunities at that site until high school season begins. USA Swimming Registration This is a reminder all swimmers will need to register their swimmer on the USA Swimming website. Here is a link posted to our website that will give you step by step instructions on how to register. You will be able to access links to our specific USA Swimming memberships from this document. If you have any trouble let me know. USA Swimming Guidelines - MAAPP/Safe Sport USA Swimming issued a directive with regards to electronic communication and social media contact between coaches and athletes. Most of what is being implemented is common sense and falls in line with our club's policies. One new requirement we will need to adhere to is how your minor child communicates with me. For several years I have asked swimmers in Group 2 and Group 3 to text/email me if they would be missing practice. Moving forward, swimmers will be instructed to include a parent on all communication with me.
 If you are the parent of a Group 2 or Group 3 swimmer, and have never sent me a text before, please text me so I have your contact info in my phone. This way if I need to contact your swimmer about missing practice I can be sure to include you. My cell phone number is 574-276-6057.

USA Swimming Registration Indiana Swimming hosted another Zoom meeting for coaches and team administrators last week. We were given a few more instructions and clarifications. Some teams are still having several issues while others are having less. Coach Matt Dorsch, from IA -- one of the clubs having less issues., shared with us a document they came up to help their parents register. I posted it to our website and you can find it by clicking here. You will be able to access links to our specific USA Swimming memberships from this document. If you have any trouble let me know. No worries, we will be starting at 8:00 AM. You will receive another email later this week with directions on how to set up your swimmer's account. Each swimmer will be required to raise at least $75. Each swimmer who raises $150 or more will earn an embroidered team suit. More details in the coming weeks. Here is the link for the Outreach Membership. This is the membership for our athletes who qualify for the free or reduced lunch program at their school. I used the link to register myself and my children and was bounced off the site about a half dozen times before it finally went through. My recommendation is to wait until the end of the week, or even later, to attempt to register. USA Swimming Registration As mentioned in previous weekly emails USA Swimming will now be requiring all athletes to register on their new website. This is an addition to our registration. I attended a Zoom meeting last week and the new process is as clear as mud. USA-S will be launching their new website later this week. We have been asked to have only first time members of the club try to register the first few days in an effort to not overwhelm their system. I think even the most optimistic anticipate there will be problems. I am recommending our members wait until at least the 15th to attempt to register. I will continue to research the process and in the coming days attempt to register my own children. More information will be coming as we work through the process. Changes for the Upcoming Season 1. My role with Group 1 and Group 2 during the school year will be greatly reduced. As most of you know Cooper is entering his senior year and Molly will be a freshman. What most of you probably do not realize is my family has not sat down and had dinner with each other on a school night, ever. Since Cooper will be leaving for school in about 12 months I feel it's time I change that before the opportunity is gone forever. I say this not looking for sympathy, my choices have been my choices. I am, however, hoping there is understanding. The summer of 23 I plan to be back to the same level of on deck presence that I have always had. (First announced 7-11) 2. We will be enforcing the 4 hour volunteer requirement for all Group 3 athletes. (First announced 7-11) 3. We have signed with a new suit company and our contract begins this fall. Our new company is called A3 Performance. Our plan is to have a team store up and running by the first week of practice. You can check out their website and what they have to offer by clicking here. (First announced 7-18) 4. During the Covid summer if a visitor was to watch our practice they would be hard pressed to determine what team was practicing. Very little SBSC caps or apparel were worn. We had caps, T-shirts, and bags from college teams, high school teams, and former club teams. I decided at that time no cap was to be worn at practice unless it was a team issued SBSC cap. There is little doubt now if a visitor were to come to one of our Group 2 or 3 practices what team was in the water. We have allowed for one day a week where swimmers can wear whatever cap they own. Those are our Fun Cap Fridays. Starting this coming season we are going to require our Group 1 athletes who wear caps to be wear our team caps during their practice. We will also be requiring all athletes, specifically our Group 3 swimmers, to wear only club T-shirts and apparel at meets. Any bags, hoodies, or shirts representing another team are not to be brought to meets. (First announced 7-18). 5. We will be requiring athletes, who are in their second season or later, to attend meets or pay a higher training fee. If there is a meet offered, in any given month, athletes will need to attend at least one session of those offered. If they do not, Group 3 will be billed an additional $25 each month, Group 2- $15, and Group 1- $10. (First announced 7-24). We will be enforcing the 4 hour volunteer requirement for all Group 3 athletes. In conjunction with this we will offering a lifeguarding class for all of our athletes that are 15 and over. This class will be August 13 and 14 at Riley High School. This class will be at no cost to our athletes but they will be required to guard additional hours at our practices to cover the cost. If an athlete is currently a lifeguard we will pay for their re-certificiation in exchange for more hours guarding our practices. Every athlete that is 16 or over registered with the class will also certified to a USA Swimming Junior Coach. Again, this cost will be covered by the club. (First announced 7-11) 3. We have signed with a new suit company and our contract begins this fall. Our new company is called A3 Performance. Our plan is to have a team store up and running by the first week of practice. During the Covid summer if a visitor was to watch our practice they would be hard pressed to determine what team was practicing. Very little SBSC caps or apparel were worn. There is little doubt now if a visitor were to come to one of our Group 2 or 3 practices what team was in the water. We have allowed for one day a week where swimmers can wear whatever cap they own. Those are our Fun Cap Fridays. Starting this coming season we are going to require our Group 1 athletes who wear caps to be wear our team caps during their practice. We will also be requiring all athletes, specifically our Group 3 swimmers, to wear only club T-shirts and apparel at meets. Any bags, hoodies, or shirts representing another team are not to be brought to meets. (First announced 7-18). 5. We will be requiring athletes, who are in their second season or later, to attend meets or pay a higher training fee. If there is a meet offered, in any given month, athletes will need to attend at least one session of those offered. If they do not, Group 3 will be billed an additional $25 each month, Group 2- $15, and Group 1- $10. (First announced 7-24). USA Swimming Memberships I have received several questions about how to proceed with registering with USA Swimming. They will be updating their website the first of September and I hoping the process will be somewhat less confusing. I have been going over the materials supplied by both USA-S and Indiana Swimming and I will be attending a Zoom meeting prior to the 1st. Any pertinent information I learn will be shared with you at that time. As long as our athletes are registered prior to September 30th we will still be considered in good standing. USA Swimming Guidelines - MAAPP/Safe Sport USA Swimming issued a directive with regards to electronic communication and social media contact between coaches and athletes. Most of what is being implemented is common sense and falls in line with our club's policies. One new requirement we will need to adhere to is how your minor child communicates with me. For several years I have asked swimmers in Group 2 and Group 3 to text/email me if they would be missing practice. Moving forward, swimmers will be instructed to include a parent on all communication with me.
 If you are the parent of a Group 2 or Group 3 swimmer, and have never sent me a text before, please text me so I have your contact info in my phone. This way if I need to contact your swimmer about missing practice I can be sure to include you. My cell phone number is 574-276-6057.
