Weekly Announcements for Week of 5/1-5/7

Dear SBSC families,

On May 1st 2006 the South Bend Swim Club held its first ever practice.  Ten years later we are still going strong.  I would like to personally thank all of our swimmers and their families, past and present, who have made this possible.  I'd especially like to thank the South Bend Parks and Recreation Department for allowing this "experiment" to take place and to become such an integral part of so many young athletes journey.  I know words will never come close to expressing the gratitude I feel towards each and every one of you. So many people have made contributions to our program it would be nearly impossible to thank you all. But, I would be remiss if I did not thank our coaching staff.  We have had so many different coaches make huge impacts on the lives of our swimmers and my life in particular.  I am reminded everyday how lucky I am when some of the most important people in my life know me only as "Coach".  My biggest thank you is reserved for my A team of Jill, Cooper, and Molly.  I couldn't do what I do without your understanding and support.  Thank you for allowing me to do what I love and being able to share my passion with so many others.  Thanks everyone for this decade long roll coaster ride and I can't wait to see what the next 10 years has in store for the South Bend Swim Club.  #SBSCForLife

Practice Notes: Please note the practice end times for Group 1 have been extended 15 minutes. The 7:15 finish time will last until the end of the month. We will also be offering weights for Group 3 swimmers in the mornings.  This week we will be M, T, Th, & F from 6:15-7:00.

Meet Entry Procedures
Last fall we implemented a new meet entry procedure.  It is now assumed all swimmers will be competing in a meets unless parents chose to opt out by selecting that option when clicking on the button that says "Decline/Attend" or "Edit Commitment". The reason for the change was I felt it would increase our meet participation, something I believe is very important for our swimmer's overall development.  What I do not want to happen is to enter swimmers into meets their parents do not want them to attend. Please parents, if you know you do not want your swimmer in a meet please choose to opt out.

NASA Meet Saturday
The meet is being held at Northridge High School in Middlebury, IN.  You can click here for a map to the pool.  You can click here to view the PDF of our entry. I have also attached the meet letter to help answer any questions you may have. Please have your swimmers events and numbers written on their hands prior to arriving at the meet. Here are the pertinent time for this Saturday's meet.

AM Session for 10 and under swimmers
Warm-ups 7:00-7:45 (our swimmers need to be on deck by 6:45)
Meet Starts at 8:00

PM Session for 11 and over swimmers
Warm-ups 12:00-12:45 (our swimmers need to be on deck by 11:45)
Meet starts at 1:00

IA Invitational May 20th-22nd
The entry for this meet has not been sent.  The host club does not start accepting entries for this meet until 12:01 AM on May 2nd.  If you would like to change your swimmers entry status for this meet I will need to know by no later then 8:00 PM this evening.

Lakeshore Aquatics Invite and CON Invite
The deadline for both of these meets is tonight.  The CON Invite is a team meet and all swimmers are assumed swimming.  If you do not opt of this meet by the deadline your swimmer will be entered in the meet.

The Lakeshore Aquatics Invite is for those swimmers that fall into the 11&O+Div Q+ category.  If your swimmer is in this category they will be automatically entered in this meet unless you choose to opt out.

This meet is a little unique for us.  It is the first in-season meet they we have competed that is outside of Indiana.  Clubs in Indiana follow certain guidelines for meet entries that we are accustomed to, including a block of dates when entries will be accepted.  This meet has on open ended entry procedure.  They are accepting entries at any time and will close as soon as the meet is full.  They have not published their entry file yet and as soon as they do I will complete our entry and send it out.  The meet letter for this meet can be found by clicking here.

New Parent Meeting
Thank you to all the parents that were able to make the meeting.  One of the topics we discussed was the OnDeck Parent app. This is an excellent tool and I recommend it for everyone on our club. This app ties directly into our website.  You can update your account, check your swimmer's attendance, and view your upcoming invoice.  This is a free app and is available for Apple and Android devices.  The password is the same we have for the website and our team alias is insbsc.

Team T-shirts
Please check the sizes you have listed for you swimmers on your account page.  I will be placing the order tomorrow morningMonday May 2nd.  Shirts are also available for purchase for other family members.  If you would like a shirt or shirts let me know by tonight, Sunday May 1st.  This season shirts will be dry-fit similar to last season.  The cost for each shirt is $12 and will be added on to your account.

New Things Happening for SBSC
Last week I had two important meetings with individuals who will be working with our club.  The first was a graduate student studying sports psychology.  She did not want me to mention her name yet until she has final approval from her advisers.  But if all things go well she will be working with our athletes starting in June. I am looking forward to adding this important component into our program.

I also met with Scott Franko, president of Franko Design (also of Building Impressions, US Signcrafters, and the Sign Shop).  He has agreed to work with our club over the next few months to help us with our marketing and promoting of our club.

Club Advertising for Account Credit
Our website allows for local merchants to advertise and offer coupons/specials directly on our site.  Here is a link to the information page. Dear SBSC families,

Practice Schedule
Group 1-Next practice Tuesday April 12th
G1 Elite Next practice Monday April 11th
Group 2 Next practice Monday April 11th
Group 3 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 3:30-5:15.  Thursday is the last practice for the season

Practice notes:Group 2 swimmers that would like to swim this week are invited to any of the Group 3 practices

New Prairie Satellite
Late last month we were informed the NPHS pool was going to be closed for some much needed upgrades and repairs.  While this is great news for the future of swimming in the New Prairie area it does create some immediate hurdles for our club.  An exact time table for these repairs was not given, but it is likely the pool will be closed until school starts again in the fall.  The South Bend Swim Club is committed to making our club work for this school and community.  Without a pool we are not left with any options for practice at the school.  For the spring and summer we will only be offering practices at Riley High School.  Because of this added hardship and we will be offering a special deal for all of our New Prairie families.  If a NP swimmer stays with the club for entire spring/summer season the July training fee will be credited back to their swim club accounts.  For those families who swim the spring/summer and sign back up in the fall we will also credit back one month of training fees when the winter season is completed.

I am asking all of our current New Prairie families to let me know, through email, their intentions for the spring and summer.  Because of the pool closure and the added travel to RHS I will assume your swimmer will not be swimming unless I hear differently from you.  This only applies for our NP families.

Swimmers Not Continuing into the Spring
If your swimmer is not continuing into the spring, and have not done so already please email me.  If I do not receive an email from you I will assume you plan on your swimmer continuing into next season.  Those accounts will be charged the spirit wear fee, the meet surcharge, and the April technology fee.  The accounts that choose the seasonal membership when registering in the fall will also be charged the seasonal training fee and those that choose the monthly will be charged the April training fee.

Spring/Summer Season
Thanks again for everyone who has liked and shared our post.  As of this morning we are at 124 shares!  If you haven't shared our post and would like to help you can click here to get to our Facebook page.

Here is the link to the registration page for the athletes that were not registered this season.  If you have questions about costs for the upcoming season you can click here to see our team pricing for the spring and summer.

Please remember if you are already registered for the fall/winter season you do not need to re-register.

Our first day of spring practice will be Monday April 11th for Group 2 and Group 3 and Tuesday the 12th for Group 1.

Club Posters
We are also asking for help with placing our recruiting posters out in the community.  If you are able to find a church, school, or place of business willing to hang our poster you will receive a $5 credit on your swim club account.

Summer Meet Schedule
Our schedule is finalized You can click hereto see our entire meet schedule.

This season we are going to have 4 different meet categories.  Those will be 1) Meets for swimmers without a Divisional time standard and all of our 10 and under swimmers.  These will be one or two day meets in short course yards.  2) Meets for swimmers 11 and over with at least one Divisional time standard.  These will be 3 day invites in long course pools typically not in the South Bend area. 3) Whole team meet.  These will also be 3 day invites in long course pools in the South Bend area. 4) Qualifier meets.  These meets will be at the end of the season and swimmers will have to meet qualifying times to attend.

As per our policy we set in place last season swimmers will be entered into the meets they do not decline.  All swimmers not declining will be entered in meets designated "whole team meets".  For the other meets, swimmers will only be entered into the meets where they meet the criteria.  For example, any 10 and under swimmer will not have to decline attending the meets designated as 11&O+Div Q+.  For those swimmers 11 and over with at least one Divisional time standard they will not have to decline meets designated Non Div Q+10&U.

Age Group State Championship
We had a small contingent of 5 swimmers attending this year but they did an outstanding job.  We had 20 individual swims and 85% of those were lifetime bests.  Sammy and Evie Sierra each set four new team records.  Sammy set new records in the 11-12 boys 50 back (30.95), 100 breast (1:13.64), 100 fly (1:02.87), and the 200 IM (2:20.64).  Evie set records in the 13-14 girls 200 fly (2:10.72), 500 free (5:15.58), 1000 free (10:47.75), and the 1650 free (18:09.51).  Even with only 5 swimmers at the meet we finished 41st out the 104 clubs in the state!

Thank you to all the families who have liked and shared our post about our registration on Twitter or Facebook.  Last week I presented a challenge to our membership to see if we could have more shares of our registration post then the other two South Bend based clubs combined.  Last Sunday we had 26 shares to their 79.  As of this morning we have 86 shares and the other two clubs are still at 79!  Keep up the good work.  Let's see if we can break a 100 sometime this week.

Spring/Summer Season
Thank you to all the families who have liked and shared our post about our registration on Twitter or Facebook.  I think it is safe to say the most popular social media for adults is Facebook.  This being the case other local clubs are using Facebook the same we are.  The other two South Bend based clubs are asking their members to also share their registration link.  Being the competitive person that I am I would like to think we can generate more shares then the other two clubs combined.  As of this morning we have 29 shares and the other two have a combined 72.  Let's make sure if there are any families in our area that are thinking about joining a swim club they are seeing our information.  Share and share often!!

You can click here to get to our Facebook page.

Summer Meet Schedule
Our meet schedule will be finalized in the upcoming days.  This season we are going to have 3 different meet categories.  Those will be 1) Meets for swimmers without a Divisional time standard and all our 10 and under swimmers.
